conversations

coat conversations are free crit sessions where artists get together to chat about work—whether it's fresh off the studio wall or a piece you've been puzzling over for months.

Next session:

Wednesday 2nd July, 18:15 - 20:30, Artizan Street Library, London E1 7AF

How it works

Each session runs for 90 minutes with time for a proper natter about everyone's work:

For each artist (20 mins):

  • Optional, short intro to tell us what you’ve been making or you can say nothing at all…

  • Hear first impressions from the group

  • Dive into a proper chat about the work

We'll take a quick 10-min break halfway through for tea refills and a stretch.

Why crits?

Feeling a bit stuck in the mud with your practice? Sometimes you need fresh eyes to spot what you've been missing. On a roll with a new series? Sharing it while it's still taking shape can help you see where it might go next.

These aren't spaces for picking work apart—they're open conversations that might solidify your ideas or nudge your practice somewhere unexpected.

Our conversation ethos

Keep it open – All voices, all perspectives, all welcome.

Tell it true – Share what strikes you about the work. The most helpful feedback is often the most straightforward.

Get curious, not critical – We're about asking the questions that help artists see their own work with fresh eyes.

You don't need to bring work to join us. Chatting about other people's art is just as rewarding and often sparks ideas you'd might never have stumbled upon otherwise.

We have limited capacity at each event so sign up is vital!
